Polymer Testing
The Davenport range of polymer test instruments, supplied by Lloyd Instruments, is used worldwide in the polymer and plastics industry for QA/QC conformity of incoming polymers and process control, as well as testing and validating plastics and finished products. Our systems are used by customers involved in blow moulding, film blowing, thermoforming, extrusion, injection moulding, in the printing industry and plastic utility pipe manufacture.
Instruments in the Davenport Range:
Melt Flow Indexers

The Davenport MFI-10 melt flow indexer is used to determine the melt flow rate of a polymer by extruding it in a molten state through a calibrated die using a reference weight. The MFI-10 is an intelligent, modular system, which offers flexibility of testing and increased automation. The main base unit can be configured for either manual or fully automatic testing.

PETPlus Instrument for the Intrinsic Viscosity (IV) Measurement of PET Polymers:
The Davenport PETPlus from Lloyd Instruments is a unique test instrument designed for the safe solvent-free intrinsic viscosity (IV) measurement of moisture-sensitive polyethylene terephthalate (PET). It can be operated in stand alone mode or used with our powerful data analysis software package NEXYGENPlus PET.
Density Gradient Columns:

The Davenport two column density measuring apparatus is designed to measure the density of solid materials, notably plastics, by the technique described in BS2782 part 6 Method 620D, ASTM D1505-68, ISO 1183 and others.

A linear liquid density gradient is fitted in a cylindrical glass tube and maintained at 23°C to prevent the gradient being disturbed by thermal convection. Temperature control circuits work in conjunction with electric heaters and a simple cooling coil to maintain accuracy. The density gradient obtained is determined by introducing a set (usually nine) of accurately calibrated marker floats whose densities cover the desired range of the column at equal density intervals. The floats provide not only the calibration reference values of the gradient, but also act as a check on the stability of the density gradient.

Friction Testers:

For use in the packaging and printing industries, the Lloyd Instruments FT1 coefficient of friction tester accurately measures static and kinetic coefficient of friction. These values are of importance in a wide range of industries including blown film, plastic sheet, paper and coating manufacture.

The FT1 is a dedicated friction tester conforming to the requirements of ASTM D1894, ISO 8295 and TAPPI T549. The tester includes these standards as user configurable tests, with a further seven available for user custom configuration.
